Art Auction

The Art Auction is one of the longest-running convention traditions, ever since the first conventions were held long, long ago in hotels far, far away. In keeping with that tradition we offer a place for the professional and amateur artist alike to showcase their works of art. And as a part of that tradition, there are some rules and guidelines that go along with it. We are trying to be fair to both professional and amateur alike. If you have any questions please email us at artshow@nekocon.org!

As always, all rules are subject to change with or without notice.

Art Auction Rules

1. You Must Have A Bidder Number To Bid. Please register with a Nekocon Art Show Staffer if you are interested in bidding. They will assign you a bidder number and provide you with a tally sheet so you can keep up with your bids.

2. You Must Clearly Print Your Bid On the Bid Sheet As Well As Your Name/ Bidder Number. If we can't read your writing, this may make your bid invalid. No bidder number, definitely means no bid.

3. Bid Price Must Start At Or Above Minimum Bid Price. Simply as stated, the artists have set a minimum bid price, and you can start your bid at that price or above.

4. Bids Must Be In Whole Dollars. This makes it easier for everyone.

5. Quick Sale: If an artwork has no bids and you want it badly enough and/or only at the convention for one day, you can buy the artwork for the Quick Sale price. If you do choose to utilize Quick Sale, cross out the remaining blank bid slots and tell a member of the Art Show staff so that it can be marked as "Quick Sale"; you can pick up and pay for the item at that time (if you are only at the convention for one day and/or want to have it right then and there) or wait until Saturday evening during that Late Viewing hours or Sunday morning. Once an artwork receives a bid at or above minimum, but below Quick Sale, the Quick Sale price becomes invalid. If there is "NFS" in the Quick Sale slot, it means the artist will not allow Quick Sale of the artwork in question. The Art Show staff does request that any Quick Sold items remain in the Art Show until 9PM Saturday evening so other attendees may see it; however, if you must leave and/or have it right then and there, you are allowed to remove the artwork upon payment.

6. You CANNOT Bid On NFS Items. These are items the artist has deemed NOT FOR SALE, so don't ask. You can look, but you cannot bid. These will be indicated by red stickers.

7. Four Bids Will Go To Auction: Please READ! Bidding will remain open until 10 PM Saturday night. If you are the first, second, or third bidder on Saturday night, then your item is safe and will NOT be going to auction. An item will only go to auction if there are four (4) bids by the close of bidding in the Art Show at 10PM Saturday night.

8. Keep A Tally Of Your Bids. We are excited when attendees can take art home with them, but be serious about what you are bidding on. Don't get carried away. If you win more than you can afford to pay for by cash, we will come after you. You must pick up your purchases and pay for them: when you registered as a bidder, and then bid on the items, you made a legally binding contract to buy the items if you are the highest bidder.

9. Payment For Artwork Must Be By Cash or Credit Card. There are also several ATM machines near the facility.

10. Bid Retraction Is NOT Permitted. If you do not think you can pay for the item, then DO NOT bid on it. Only in the event of an emergency that prevents your return for the duration of the convention and informing the Art Show Director, and/or Art Show Assistants will any bid retraction be allowed. The Art Show Director will have the final decision.

11. Buyer Beware: You must read the bid sheet carefully. Be sure you are bidding on exactly what you think you are bidding on as well as the artist, description, price, etc. You cannot retract the bid once it has been placed.

12. Bidders Who Need To Leave Before Art Show Check Out On Sunday: If you must leave and cannot personally pick up your own purchases, you must make arrangements with another person to pick up and pay for your purchases. That person must have a signed letter by you giving them permission as well as a valid ID to pick up your winnings. A valid ID can include a drivers license, student ID, credit card with a photo, or a passport.
